Cale Makar is rested, healed and eager to begin what he believes can be a journey to another Stanley Cup championship, just like the one he and the Colorado Avalanche had 14 months ago. Makar, the Avalanche defenseman, is training this week at the 13th annual 2023 BioSteel NHL Camp in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with teammate Nathan MacKinnon, Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares, and Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. But Makar's focus is on getting to Denver for training camp next month, especially considering the Avalanche were eliminated in the Western Conference First Round last season. "I know a lot of the guys are itching to get back to camp," the 24 year old said Tuesday. "I feel like last year that was maybe not the thing you wanted to get back to it, you wanted a little bit of time to make sure your body and mentally you could recover from the run we went on. I think a lot of the guys are itching to get back now. A lot of the guys will get in a couple weeks before camp so it should be awesome. " Makar attends Biosteel NHL Camp to kick off workouts Makar said this offseason has been "a little bit of a grind" for him because he's been trying to overcome ailments he had at the end of last season that lingered longer than he expected. But he also feels he's no different than many of his Avalanche teammates in that they utilized the longer than expected offseason, unfortunately afforded to them because of losing to the Seattle Kraken in the first round, to get into the shape they need to be going into training camp. The Avalanche played their last game of last season April 30, losing 2 1 in Game 7 against Seattle. They played nearly two months longer in 2021 22, winning the Stanley Cup on June 26. Makar was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as most valuable player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when he had 29 points eight goals, 21 assists in 20 games. He also won the Norris Trophy as the League's best defenseman that season, with 86 points 28 goals, 58 assists in 77 games Gustav Olofsson Jersey. That's 97 games in 2021 22. He played just 60 regular season games, missing time because of a concussion and then a lower body injury, and seven in the playoffs last season. "It's a win lose scenario, but one of the things for us as a team being unfortunately eliminated early is it gave us a little more rest time," Makar said. "For a team that was so banged up this past year and had so many man games lost I think that was huge. I think a lot of guys really took advantage. It mentally can give us a little bit of a break and clear it; guys can reset a little bit. Everything felt like it was in super speed mode last summer, so this summer you got to slow things down a little bit and regroup yourself https://www.krakenproteamstore.com/maxim-andreev-jersey. "Makar also said he's a fan of everything the Avalanche did to tinker with the roster. Colorado traded for forwards Ryan Johansen Nashville Predators and Ross Colton Tampa Bay Lightning and signed free agent forwards Miles Wood six years and Jonathan Drouin one year. They lost forwards Evan Rodrigues four year contract with the Florida Panthers , Alex Newhook traded to the Montreal Canadiens , J. T. Compher five year contract with the Detroit Red Wings , Lars Eller two year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Denis Malgin unrestricted free agent. Defensemen Erik Johnson signed a one year contract with the Buffalo Sabres. "I feel like we put ourselves in the best possible spot to have a chance again," Makar said. "The guys we picked up are hard working guys that are going to be reliable every single night. I think our management did a great job of filling holes in our lineup that were definitely needed from the year prior, exposed. " The crew reveals Cale Makar as the top defensemen He's hoping the next move by the Avalanche is to sign defenseman Devon Toews, who has one year remaining on his contract before he can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The 29 year old had 50 points seven goals, 43 assists in 80 regular season games and nine points one goal, eight assists in seven playoff games last season. He had 57 points 13 goals, 44 assists in 66 games in 2021 22 and 15 points five goals, 10 assists in 20 playoff games during the Cup run. "I feel like he's one of the best defensemen in the League," Makar said. "I don't know if he's underrated anymore. I have no doubt they'll get something done. You want something that works for both sides and he's a guy that definitely deserves it. "Even without Toews extended, the Avalanche have 14 players signed through at least 2024 25. That list includes Makar, MacKinnon, Wood, Colton, forwards Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen, and defensemen Samuel Girard and Josh Manson signed for at least three more seasons. Even with captain Video: Makar attends Biosteel NHL Camp to kick off workouts set to be out for his second straight season following cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee May 10, the Avalanche championship window appears to be open for several seasons to come https://www.krakenproteamstore.com. "Hopefully that window keeps extending and extending and we keep bringing in guys that can help and fill out the team," Makar said. "It's exciting to be on a team like that, to have the ability and to know you're going to have a shot at it every year. We feel that we're capable of it. "

RALEIGH, N.C. Yaniv Perets put together a pristine resume at Quinnipiac University last season in front of what turned out to be a well connected and captive audience. In April, the 23 year old goalie helped Quinnipiac win the NCAA national championship with a 3 2 victory against the University of Minnesota. It capped a terrific season for the sophomore, who went 34 4 3 with a 1.49 goals against average, .931 save percentage and 10 shutouts; he led the nation in GAA and shutouts. When it came time for Perets to pursue an NHL contract, the Carolina Hurricanes were uniquely positioned to make a pitch. Perets' college roommate was senior forward Skyler Brind'Amour, the son of Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour."I basically watched two years of him play and I didn't see a bad goal go in Callahan Burke Jersey, " the Carolina coach said. "There's something to be said for bringing in guys that have won. They know what it takes. That's a special attribute as well."Perets wound up signing a two year, entry level contract with Carolina on April 11. Though he recognizes his connections may have heightened the Hurricanes' awareness, he knows it won't make much difference in the future."I'm sure it helped. [Rod Brind'Amour] was able to watch me a lot more, " Perets said. "But it doesn't matter where you go, you're going to have to stop the puck and compete hard, or you're going to be out the door pretty quick."Raised in the Montreal suburb of Dollard des Ormeaux, Perets didn't have to look far for a goaltending role model."Growing up, I always loved Carey Price, being from Montreal, " he said. "Nowadays, I love all goalies. I have so much respect for all the goalies that play at this level. I feel like there's so much you can learn from each goalie and their experiences, how they play, how they see the game."The Hurricanes like the fact that Perets is older than typical draft eligible goalies."The one thing college affords guys is the opportunity to develop, " Carolina goaltending development coach Jason Muzzatti said. "You never know when it comes together. He's very detailed with his tracking Justin Robidas Jersey, his focus is good, he's very smart positionally. For me, it's the competitor in him, it's the gamer. It's not easy to win those collegiate games. It's high pressure. That's a great box to check."Brind'Amour also values the goalie's track record at Quinnipiac; Perets' 34 wins last season were the most by a goalie in school history, and he finished his collegiate career 56 9 5 with a 1.34 GAA, .935 save percentage and 21 shutouts. The Hurricanes coach is often reluctant to assess goalie prospects, but he doesn't hesitate to weigh in on Perets."At some point, you've got to trust what you see, " Brind'Amour said. "There's something there. I did meet him once because I went up to watch Skyler one time, and I saw where they lived. [Perets] was there and I said hi, and that was it. But [Skyler] is like https://www.hurricanesprostore.com/teuvo-teravainen-jersey, 'Dad, he's great.' He fits everything we're about."Carolina will enter this season employing goalies Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta for the third straight time. The Hurricanes also have 24 year old prospect Pyotr Kochetkov, who has impressed in 27 NHL regular season games over the past two seasons, along with five appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But Perets is more concerned about developing his own game than assessing his competition."I've always had confidence in myself, no matter where I'm at, " Perets said. "I know it's not a sprint, it's a marathon. I think the most important thing is competing as hard as you can every single day and always believing in yourself. There's tons of great goalies out there, so you just have to worry about yourself."

Welcome to the NHL Buzz. Each day during the regular season, NHL. com has you covered with all the latest news. Florida PanthersAleksander Barkov will be out of the lineup when the Panthers host the Edmonton Oilers on Monday 7 p. m. ET; BSFL, TVAS D, SN. The forward had to be assisted off the ice early in the third period of Florida's 2 1 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday after colliding with defenseman Jackson LaCombe Tyler Tullio Jersey. Florida coach Paul Maurice said that Barkov is day to day with an apparent knee injury, saying that there was "soft tissue damage. "Barkov will not be placed on IR at least right now as the team monitors the injury. Florida begins a three game homestand against the Oilers on Monday. 'We will list him as day to day as we are still looking at him," Maurice said following practice Sunday. 'He will not play [Monday], that is for sure. ' George RichardsColumbus Blue JacketsPatrik Laine was a healthy scratch for a 5 2 loss at the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The forward has one goal in five games since returning from a concussion sustained Oct. 20 that sidelined him for nine games. He has three points two goals, one assist in nine games this season. "I know what he can do on the ice," Blue Jackets coach Pascal Vincent said. "I care about him quite a bit. I know Patrik the person and I know [Laine] the player, if that makes sense. And I know what he can do on the ice, I know his potential. He's not happy about the decision, don't get me wrong. But right now, I think Patty needs to take a deep breath, go back to the working lab and get his touches back, get his shot back, get his confidence back, so he can be the No. 29 Patrik Laine we all know he can be. "It was a hard conversation, but nobody, not myself, nobody's bigger than the Blue Jackets https://www.edmontonoilersstoreonline.com/drake-caggiula-jersey. We need the best Patrik Laine as possible for us. It's to get back on the ice, touching the puck, practicing, moving his feet, feeling confident, so he can be that guy. "Without Laine, the Blue Jackets will play 11 forwards and seven defensemen as they look to end an eight game skid 0 6 2 , including a 4 3 loss at the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
